Those scenarios are useful, and for a learner without a course of their own they’re a perfectly good place to practice. But if you spent this week on a specific chapter, a conversation about airports doesn’t do much for the vocabulary sitting in front of you.

How the interaction works
Ailelo isn’t designed as a continuous voice conversation that talks over you. It’s turn-based: you speak, your answer is analyzed, and feedback comes back before the exchange moves on.
There is a short pause while your answer is analyzed. That pause is what buys you the feedback. It’s the difference between an exchange that simply keeps going and one that tells you something about the answer you just gave.
The pause is doing work. Without it you get a conversation partner. With it you get a conversation partner that can tell you whether the grammar held up and whether your answer landed.
Don’t just say it. Learn from it.
Plenty of tools will turn your speech into text and move on. Transcription tells you what a machine thinks you said. It doesn’t tell you whether the sentence was right or whether it answered the question.
Ailelo shows you the transcript, then gives you one short assessment with a brief explanation: did your grammar and word choice fit, and did your answer respond to what was asked? It’s feedback on your actual answer, not a score.
Pronunciation feedback is coming soon. For now, feedback looks at what you said rather than how it sounded, and it deliberately ignores accent and recording quality.

Grammar
Grammar exercises usually test a structure on its own, with the answer already narrowed down for you. You know which pattern the exercise wants because the exercise is about that pattern.
Speaking removes that scaffolding. You have to pull the structure out of memory while also deciding what you mean and getting it said. Ailelo checks the grammar and word choice in your answer and explains briefly whether they fit.
Grammar becomes something you use, not only something you recognize.
Answer relevance
A response can be grammatically correct and still miss the question entirely. If feedback only covers whether the sentence was right, you can leave a session writing cleaner sentences and communicating no more clearly than before.
So the same assessment also checks whether your answer actually responded to the question. That’s the part that separates conversation practice from a grammar drill.
Your curriculum doesn’t disappear when you start speaking
The conversation isn’t a separate product that happens to speak your language. It draws from the same Study Track as your flashcards, which is why the words that come up can be the words that are due for review right now.
This week’s chapter
A new chapter arrives with new vocabulary, new grammar, and sentence patterns you haven’t used before. Read them and they make sense. That feeling of understanding is real, and it is not the same as being able to produce any of it.
Because Ailelo organized your textbook into a Study Track, conversation practice can draw on that same material: the textbook’s grammar, and the vocabulary that’s due for review. That gives you somewhere to retrieve those words and structures out loud.
The gap between recognizing a structure and saying it under mild pressure is where most of the work actually lives.
From the card to the sentence
You can know a word cold on a flashcard and still not find it when you need it in a sentence. Recognition and retrieval are different skills, and only one of them gets exercised by looking at a card.
Ailelo’s system gives the same vocabulary chances to move along that path: from seeing it, to recalling it, to hearing it, to finally saying it in an exchange where you had to choose it yourself.
Audio lessons
An audio lesson is a tighter loop: you hear a prompt, answer aloud, and then hear the correct response so you can check yourself. Your spoken answer isn’t graded there. The lesson gives you the answer and you compare.
Conversation practice is the open end of that. You formulate your own response, say it, and get feedback on your grammar and whether you answered the question before continuing. Both exist because producing language inside a structure and producing it freely are different exercises.
